The Courier Mail of Papua New Guinea reported on February 7, 2022 that The Minister of Fisheries, Lino Tom, accompanied Prime Minister Malape on his trip to China for the Beijing Winter Olympic Games,It signed with the General Administration of Customs of China the Protocol on Quarantine and Hygiene Requirements of Edible Aquatic Animals exported from Papua New Guinea to China and the revised Protocol on Inspection, Quarantine and Veterinary Hygiene Requirements of Wild Aquatic Products exported from Papua New Guinea to China.Minister Tom said that the signing of the two protocols means for the People of Papua New Guinea a unique opportunity to gain direct access to the big Chinese market, and that the profits of Papua New Guinea in this field will no longer be diluted. At present, even if Papua New Guinea goes all out in production, it cannot meet the demand of the Chinese market. We hope that Papua New Guinea will do a good job in compliance with the protocol so as to make full use of market opportunities. Two years ago, the two sides signed the Protocol on Inspection, Quarantine and Veterinary Hygiene Requirements for Wild Aquatic Products imported from Papua New Guinea to China for the first time, and now 78 Companies from Papua New Guinea have direct access to the Chinese market without intermediaries, Tom said.Source: Economic and Commercial Section, Embassy of the Independent State of Papua New Guinea
